Junior Kindergarten and Kindergarten Music

January Highlights

This Month, JK and Kindergarten students have been working on their first longways set dance, called Bobolinka where students face a partner and do various motions. Then as a class in the long set, they make an arch by putting their hands up to their partner's hands, while one group of partners goes "through the alley". Students have learned a song called Hot Cross Buns, with body motions included to help remember the words. With this song, students have practiced using their inner hearing (singing parts of the song in their head) by taking out words of the song, only doing the body motions and singing the rest of the song. They have also been introduced to the terms for "fast" and "slow" in music (Adagio and Allegro), through listening examples and they . We continue our practice with keeping a steady beat, using our singing voice instead of speaking voice, listening for high and low sounds and the terms "piano" and "forte" for quiet and loud. Below are the words for Bobolinka and Hot Cross Buns.
