3rd Grade Music

3rd Graders are in the midst of learning more complex rhythms. They recently learned 4 Sixteenth notes (Tiri Tiri) and an Eighth note beamed to 2 sixteenth notes (Ti- Tiri). This month they will work on writing those rhythms and rhythmic dictation, where I play a rhythm on an instrument and they write what they hear. They will also continue improvisation and making up their own 4 beat rhythm patterns on their own, by writing them and demonstrating them using rhythm sticks or another unhitched instrument.

Students are also working on a mixer dance called Bow Belinda to start every class. It is a dance where they perform the actions sung in the song, with a partner. It is in the formation of a longways set.

Lastly, students have begun to learn their Spring concert song, I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing (in Perfect Harmony).  They are taking to this song very nicely and seem to really enjoy singing it so far.
Through this song, they have learned about reading a score and where to find various information in the music that can help them perform the song better.
